Do you yearn to escape the stress of city life and rush-hour traffic? Come to Støtt and experience the deep tranquillity of the Arctic night and our winter world. Perhaps you’ll even get to see the dance of the Northern Lights!
What you will experience
The winter season has its own special charms, and you may enjoy the fact that Støtt has fewer visitors. In the Arctic, the winter light is unique, and you may well be lucky enough to see the dance of the Northern Lights. And a winter storm is guaranteed to be unforgettable!
Most of the time, however, you can go kayaking on sheltered waters between the islets and skerries, and marvel at the beauty of the snow-capped mountains. Did you know that the waters are unusually clear during the winter months? This allows you to observe the amazing life both below and above water.
Perhaps it is the moody sea and ever-shifting weather and the stunning contrasts from one day to the next that has given rise to such open and hospitable people? If you dream of tasting life at an authentic old trading post, dining on amazing seafood, and experiencing the marvels of the Nordland landscape, then the island of Støtt and Støtt Old Trading Post is just the place for you.
As the present proprietors of Støtt Old Trading Post and fourth generation owners, we will receive you personally as our guest. We believe you too will fall in love with spending winter days by the sea. The air and weather north of the Arctic Circle do something very special to you!
You may be well aware that the Helgeland coast is an ever more popular travel destination during the summer, but you may not yet know how much our region has to offer in the winter. As you walk through the fishing community, with a guide or on your own, take the tour of Støtt’s fascinating fisheries museum, hike up to the island’s best viewpoints, or go kayaking in our archipelago, you cannot help but feel close to nature and appreciate these winter days by the sea.
When conditions are right, you need only walk outside the house where you are staying at Støtt to see the Northern Lights. The hunt for the dancing Aurora Borealis is in itself worth the trip to Støtt!
